Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Batter
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Mocha Swirl
- 2 teaspoons instant espresso powder
- 1 tablespoon hot water
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Make the Brownie Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture while stirring until fully combined, forming a smooth brownie batter.
- Prepare the Mocha Swirl: Dissolve the instant espresso powder in the hot water to make a strong coffee mixture. In a small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy, then mix in the espresso mixture until fully integrated.
- Assemble the Brownies: Pour the prepared brownie batter evenly into the greased or lined baking pan. Using a spoon, drop dollops of the mocha cream cheese mixture over the surface of the brownie batter. Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the mocha mixture into the brownie batter to create a marbled effect.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter, ensuring a fudgy texture. Avoid overbaking to maintain moistness.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares for clean slices. Optionally, chill the brownies to firm up the swirl and make cutting easier. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Using room temperature eggs and cream cheese helps with smoother mixing.
- For stronger coffee flavor, increase espresso powder to 3 teaspoons.
- Chilling the brownies after baking makes slicing cleaner and easier.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- Do not overbake to preserve the fudgy texture.
