Description

These Italian Sliders feature savory Italian sausage, melted provolone cheese, vibrant pesto sauce, and sweet roasted red peppers all layered on soft slider buns. Perfectly baked to achieve a golden, crispy top, these sliders are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or meal ideal for entertaining or family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Sliders

  • 12 slider buns
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1/2 cup pesto sauce
  • 1 cup roasted red peppers, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the sliders.
  2. Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until it is browned and crumbled, ensuring it is fully cooked through with no pink remaining.
  3. Prepare Buns: Slice the slider buns in half horizontally. Spread pesto sauce evenly on the bottom halves of the buns to add flavor and moisture.
  4. Assemble Sliders: Layer the cooked sausage evenly over the pesto-coated bun bottoms. Then add the provolone cheese slices on top of the sausage, followed by the sliced roasted red peppers.
  5. Top and Bake: Replace the top halves of the slider buns. Brush the tops with olive oil to help achieve a golden color and to add extra crispness. Cover the assembled sliders with aluminum foil to prevent the tops from burning.
  6. Bake Covered: Bake the sliders in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt and flavors to meld.
  7. Uncover and Finish Baking: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the buns are golden brown and slightly crispy. Serve the sliders hot for best taste.

Notes

  • Use either sweet or spicy Italian sausage depending on your preference for heat.
  • Roasted red peppers can be substituted with jarred for convenience.
  • Brush the tops with olive oil before baking to enhance browning and add flavor.
  • Keep the sliders covered during most of the baking to prevent the buns from becoming too hard or burnt.
  • These sliders are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven but can be reheated.
