Ingredients
Scale
Choux Pastry Crust
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
Filling and Topping
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 1/2 cups cold milk
- 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping, thawed
- Chocolate syrup for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the choux pastry crust.
- Make Dough: In a medium saucepan, bring water and butter to a boil. Once boiling, add the flour all at once and vigorously stir until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the pan sides.
- Cool Dough: Remove the pan from heat and let the dough cool for 5 minutes to avoid scrambling the eggs in the next step.
- Add Eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
- Spread Dough: Evenly spread the choux dough into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, ensuring a uniform layer.
- Bake: Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the crust is puffed and golden brown. Remove from oven and allow it to cool completely before adding the filling.
- Prepare Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk, beating until the mixture thickens.
- Assemble Dessert: Spread the pudding and cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled crust, then top with thawed whipped topping.
- Add Final Touches and Chill: Drizzle with chocolate syrup if desired. Chill the dessert in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving to set the layers.
Notes
- Ensure the crust is completely cooled before adding the cream filling to prevent it from melting and becoming watery.
- For variation, use chocolate pudding mix instead of vanilla for a richer flavor.
- Top with fresh berries for a fruity twist and added color.
- This dessert can be made a day ahead to enhance flavors and convenience.
