Description

This Creamy Tuna Noodle Bake is a comforting and hearty casserole perfect for a family dinner. It features tender egg noodles combined with tuna, peas, and a creamy cheese and mushroom sauce, then baked to golden perfection. Easy to prepare and deliciously satisfying, this dish makes a fantastic weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 12 oz egg noodles

Tuna Mixture

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup sour cream or mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook noodles: Cook egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and set aside.
  3. Mix tuna filling: In a large bowl, combine the drained tuna, frozen peas, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream or mayonnaise, shredded cheddar cheese, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended.
  4. Combine noodles with mixture: Add the cooked noodles to the bowl with the tuna mixture and toss gently until noodles are evenly coated with the creamy sauce.
  5. Assemble casserole: Pour the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  6. Add topping: Sprinkle additional shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole for a golden, cheesy crust.
  7. Bake: Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbling around the edges and the top is golden brown.
  8. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool slightly before serving to allow it to set.

Notes

  • You can substitute sour cream with mayonnaise to adjust the dish’s creaminess to your preference.
  • For a lower fat version, use reduced-fat cheese and sour cream.
  • Add a pinch of paprika or chopped herbs like parsley on top before baking for extra flavor.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the oven or microwave.
