Ingredients
Scale
Blueberry Filling
- 4 cups blueberries
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
Topping
- 1 cup sifted flour
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup sugar (granulated)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the crisp perfectly.
- Prepare the blueberry filling. In a large bowl, toss the blueberries with 2 tablespoons of flour and 2 tablespoons of sugar until they are well coated, which helps thicken the filling as it bakes.
- Assemble the filling in the baking dish. Transfer the coated blueberry mixture evenly into a buttered 8×8 inch baking dish, spreading it out to make an even layer.
- Make the crisp topping. Using a pastry blender, cut together 1 cup sifted flour, ½ cup butter, 1 cup sugar, ½ teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon baking powder until the mixture becomes crumbly. Then stir in ½ teaspoon vanilla extract to add flavor.
- Add the topping. Evenly sprinkle the crumbly topping over the blueberry mixture in the baking dish to cover it completely.
- Bake the crisp. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the blueberry filling is bubbly.
- Cool and serve. Remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for about 30 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set slightly.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the topping mixture.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful dessert experience.
- Fresh or frozen blueberries can be used; if using frozen, do not thaw before mixing.
- Make sure the butter is cold when mixing the topping to achieve a crumbly texture.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and consume within 3 days.
